I don't have Vista or 7 at home. Still running XP. But thanks for the
advice, I can use that for my laptop.

Why not just use the builtin Windows Backup, if you have Vista or 7?
Write to an external USB drive or a set of DVDs. To restore, boot from
the Windows install media and choose to do a Complete PC Recovery. It's
free and supported by the OS vendor.
